Greetings Family and Friends!
As some of you may know, Hurricane or Tropical Storm "Tomas" is on its way! So far its still on the west side of the island in Haiti, but we are expecting it to hit Jarabacoa sometime this weekend--likely Saturday. Please keep Haiti in your prayers; that people would be aware and prepared and for their safety. We have heard that Jarabacoa does not typically get hit hard when hurricanes go through because we are protected by the mountains, and the rivers can withhold a lot of water. So far we are on the brink of the storm. We have been having lots of heavy rain and some wind, but so far, so good. Please keep us in your prayers-that we would be prepared with supplies (when we have heavy rains, we loose electricity, and sometimes water), and for safety.
I think its time for a picture update so you can see what we have been up to! October has been a fun month! The weather is cooling down, lots of staff have had family and friends in town, so there have been lots of group gatherings, and Robbie and I are starting to figure out married life in this new country!
| At the beginning of the month we had our first date night in about 3 months. It was also our first time getting "ready" or dressed up since we have been here. We took some goofy pictures, had a great dinner, and fun time! |
| Our Favorite Saturday Mornings! In the past we would try get up early and go to school to work and use the internet. Lately we have been staying home, doing a few loads of laundry, eating a great breakfast, and playing games! |
| I was the "Best-of-5-Games" champ! |
| A delicious breakfast! |
| I have been working on my "homemade" granola recipe. Cereal here is about $6-$8 a box, so we've gone the "make-your-own" route, and its been so fun! |
| I made ratatouille for the first time! |
| Final product...ratatouille, chicken, and rice! |
For me, cooking has been a huge source of fun and excitement! I also feel like its been a fun way to connect to home. When so many other things are different, its been a fun challenge to try make a new recipe or to make something that reminds us of home. My next challenge is homemade salsa, so if you have a good recipe send it my way! Robbie has been working on some house projects. Last week he ordered some mirrors for our place (the apartment we are renting does not have
any-not even above the sinks!), and last weekend he worked on building frames for them so we can hang them! Then he will be able to shave at our place, and not at school--huge progress!
Love from the DR!
