Traditional Thanksgiving at the Beach

We're going to go a little out of sequence here, to keep the blog posting moving along. I don't like to make posts back-to-back even if there is a lot of catching up to do thinking that people won't check back again to read the second one...but then I just end up forgetting to ever come back and post something new!
Our Thanksgiving tradition the last 2 years has been to spend some quality time at the beach with friends, who we consider as close as family! And, honestly, its not a bad tradition! If we can't be with family--the beach is the next best thing! This year we actually made our Thanksgiving dinner at the beach: herbed chicken, corn bread stuffing, cranberry sauce, garlic mashed potatoes, green beans, pumpkin pie, and apple cobbler! Quite the spread! We didn't have the best weather for the 4 days we were there. I am pretty sure that it rained everyday, but it made for some restful and peaceful time of reading, playing games, and taking naps!
Yummy herbed chicken!

Making pumpkin pie from scratch, with help from Grandma's email!

The "never fail" pie crust.

Robbie was in charge of the garlic mashed potatoes. They were SO good!
Thanksgiving. We have so much to be thankful for!

Date night!

We went out for sushi...man was it good!
One night while we were at the beach we treated ourselves to a night out (all other meals we cooked at the house so we could save money). It was one of those date nights where we were so excited to go, got all primped and pretty, and started walking along the beach to our restaurant when it started to rain. So we bolted back to the house we were staying at (we had only just begun to walk), and borrowed a friend's car. We got to our favorite restaurant on the beach (Miro) and sat down in anticipation for an excellent meal...and the meal was delicious. The night was even better as we sat and talked and dreamed for 2 1/2 hours--what started out as a bust, turned out to be an excellent evening!

Funny how great moments aren't planned...your dinner on the beach sounds like a memory to file under the title "best of times" : )
